1-0: GRANADA CF PUT AN END TO SEVILLA FC'S UNBEATEN STREAK IN LA LIGA

Herrara's goal secured the three points for Granada, after Sevilla played the entirety of the second half a man down after Jordán's sending off just before the break

Sevilla FC's unbeaten run was struck down at the Nuevo Los Cármenes. The team were eighteen matches unbeaten in La Liga until Herrera's header at the end condemned Julen Lopetegui's team to defeat. The first half was highly contested in the middle of the park, with chances few and far between. Just before the whistle for the break, Joan Jordán received two bookings and was sent off, a moment which, despite Sevilla's best efforts, would shift the game towards Granada's favour in the second half. Munir could have put the ten men in front, but his shot struck the post of Rui Silva's goal.

The first half did not end well for Sevilla FC with Jordán picking up two bookings in just two minutes. Until then, the game had been played out in the middle of the pitch with few chances; however, the few chances the sides had could have served to open the scoring. Escudero had to leave the match early after picking up an injury, with Acuña replacing him.

Jordán's sending off just before half time changed the face of the game

Germán had the best chance for Granada following a corner. The ball ricocheted about in the box, following to the Granada player just in front of goal, however a heroic Sergi Gómez block on the line denied a certain goal. The Nervionenses could have also opened the scoring before half time, with Jordán not managing to connect well with a Jesús Navas cross from the right wing. Munir, playing on the left wing, was the best player for Lopetegui's team, bringing speed and skill to Sevilla's attacking play.

Sevilla started the second half with a double change, Ocampos and De Jong coming on for Suso and Fernández. Granada sought to make the most of their numerical superiority, pushing towards Sevilla's box, however they didn't create too much danger on Bono's goal. The best chance actually come for Lopetegui's side, with an excellent counterattack leading to Munir striking the post of Rui Silva's goal. Granada would then go on to have an excellent chance, with Bono making a magnificent save to deny Antonio Puertas at close range following a cross from Machís.

With the game heading into the last quarter, the hammer blow would come for Sevilla FC, who had become pushed back by Granada. Herrera got ahead of Gómez and Diego Carlos to head in a cross from the right wing, sending the ball beyond a helpless Bono. Sevilla's race had been run, with the team exhausted after playing 45 minutes a man down against a tireless Granada.

Sevilla will welcome SD Eibar to the Sánchez-Pizjuán next Saturday in La Liga, an encounter which comes after the team begin their Champions League campaign this Tuesday in London against Chelsea.
