The article "Ya caerá el Sevilla…" by Rubén Uría - published on the Uría Blog of www.eurosport.es - has been awarded first prize in the eighth edition of the SFC José Antonio Blázquez awards for journalism. In his article, Uría puts the incredible jump the Nervión side has made in the 16/17 season into perspective and explains just how difficult it is to compete against the two giants of Spanish football - not just on the field, but in a media domain as well.

“’Sevilla will fall’, say the prophets. And they go on. Amongst other reasons, because they couldn´t care less about the team, its football, its history or its identity. For the reinforcing media system of the "two-team league", one which denounced and singularly opposed José María Del Nido, the objective is simple: to esnure the championship continues to be private property of Madrid and Barça. As if it weren´t more exciting and attratictive with the presence of new powers. As if la Liga weren´t better off with new contenders. As if the fans don´t want a harder-fought league with teams that object to the dominance of the two "forever" teams… Favourites for nothing but aspiring for everything”, writes Uría in the second paragraph of his on-the-nose article.

The message of the article was conclusive and realistic: “A world lays ahead of us, one in which no one has the faintest idea who will be champions. At this level, there could be at least four: Real Madrid, Sevilla, FC Barcelona or Atlético. No one knows for sure. What we do know is that Sevilla FC, which owes nothing to anybody and has reached this height through sheer determination, will fight to the very end. And if it does fall, it will do so fighting. No one in their right-mind could deny the colossal achievements of Atlético under Simeone over the last five, priceless years. Now this can motivate Sevilla. Which is fantastic news for the fans, whether they win the league or not. In a country which takes itself moderately seriously, a club like this deserves success”.

Sevilla FC - which has finally finished falling - values the accurate analysis of Uría on Spain´s footballing panorama.

The second prize of the Blázquez  award was given to two Correo de Andalucía, journalists: Diego Manuel Díaz Salado and Antonio Viola, for their respective works on the origins of Sevilla FC, the first with a full report published in El Correo on the 12th of March 2017 titled "Gran match de football" and the second a report on the 126th birthday of Sevilla, transmitted on "El Descuento" of "El Correo" TV. .

Finally, the acclaimed José Antonio Blázquez Prize was awarded to the newspaper"Estadio Deportivo", which was set up mid-way through the nineties to exclusively document the sport of the city. With the awarding of this prize Sevilla FC would like to applaud the efforts of an indispensible newspaper for those who want to know about Sevilla sport.
