The Sevilla coach acknowledged after the game that his team took a step backwards and that what they tried was "disorganised".

Jorge Sampaoli didn't have any warm words for Saturday's defeat to Rayo in the press room: "The team didn't play well and lost possession a lot at the start of the game. The opposition took advantage of that and generated counterattacks. That forced us to track back a lot, especially in the first half. The team, playing this way, has that physical disadvantage and that's where they run into trouble."

"The coach is not focused on the team's place in the table: "The concern is the same as when we arrived. Working to improve without much time to do so, but today we took a step backwards because the team was very imprecise and weren't on the same page in many ways."

"They had the desire, but they were disorganised and that could easily have led to a bigger loss. We have to try to recover for Wednesday, because the amount of games we have been playing can sometimes generate a drop in performance and we have a lot of things to analyse."

On the state of mind of the squad, he commented that "our place in the table is the reality that they've had to live with, we talk about it every day to drive home this uncomfortable position, so we are motivated to improve. We try to support them every day so that they can rediscover themselves collectively and find improvements that will get them out of it."

As for the push in the last few minutes, he acknowledged that "it's desperate play, losing their spirit, their shape... thinking that by sticking people up top the team will find something they couldn't get out of the game. That's where the mistake lies. No situation of this kind can be resolved in an desperate way. You get out of it with a style of play that the team didn't have today".
