This isn't just any season for Pablo Sarabia. Although he has always been known for his attacking talents since his arrival in the summer of 2016, there has been a remarkable improvement in his goalscoring tally this season, making him one of the top players around this season. Sarabia's performance last night against Alavés got him into an exclusive club with Lionel Messi as the only players to have scored ten goals and provided ten assists in this La Liga season. And this is not the only stat which shows the Sevillista's remarkable rise.
After the injury which kept him out of the matches against Espanyol and Valencia, Sarabia was back with a vengeance against Alavés. The midfielder has now equalled his goal tally for the previous two seasons in this season. 11 goals in 16/17, 9 in 17/18, and now 20 in this season divided between ten in La Liga with eight matches to go, eight in the Europa League, one in the Copa del Rey and one in the Spanish Supercup. He could even have one more to his name, however his deflected strike against Barcelona in the Camp Nou went down as a Lenglet own-goal.
Yesterday was his 145th match for Sevilla, the same figure he reached in five seasons at Getafe
He has achieved all of this without neglecting his playmaking duties as he has also recorded a record number of assists this season. Last night's assist to Roque Mesa brought his tally for the season to 14, above his 12 in his first season and the 10 in his second. Sarabia's growth from his time at Getafe is evident, recording 145 appearances in three seasons at Sevilla compared to five at Getafe. Furthermore, in those 145 appearances he scored 14 goals, way below the 40 scored at Sevilla.
Sarabia's performance last night served to have him nominated for MVP for matchday 30 in La Liga alongside Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad), Parejo (Valencia CF) and Chukwueze (Villarreal CF).
