Sevilla FC started the 2020/21 La Liga season in the best way possible, with a victory at the Ramón de Carranza. Sevilla had to fight hard for the points, having to come from behind after Salvi put Cádiz in front. De Jong's header, Munir's calm finish and Rakitić's strike brought the three points home to Seville. This win continued Sevilla's excellent form in La Liga: especially away from home.
With yesterday's victory, Sevilla continue where they left off last season. Yet another game without tasting defeat: it has been 16 matches since the last league defeat. After the defeat in Vigo on 9 February, the team has been undefeated for now nearly half a league season. With the win in Cádiz, Sevilla picked up their ninth win from 16 matches, seven of them draws. Only Atlético Madrid, on a streak of 20 games without losing, can beat Sevilla's current run.
Nine wins and seven draws: it has been a productive unbeaten run for Sevilla FC in La Liga
Furthermore, Sevilla kept their excellent run away from home going, starting the season as they ended the last one with a victory away to RCD Espanyol at the Cornellá-El Prat. This is a record Lopetegui's men will surely look to keep going from last season, where they registered nine wins away from home, almost half of the 19 games contested away from the Sánchez-Pizjuán. It is also the third season in a row that Sevilla start off with a win, and it has now been seven years since Sevilla last tasted defeat on the opening day.
Only Bayern Munich, after extra time in Budapest, has been capable of beating Sevilla FC in any competition. The impressive numbers in the league are backed up by wins against AS Roma, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Manchester United and Inter Milan, a run which saw the club win their sixth Europa League. A resolute, competitive and dominant mentality forces any rival to give their all to beat Sevilla FC.
Since February, only Bayern Munich has managed to defeat Sevilla FC in all competitions
A new week begins with two matches in La Liga. To start things off, the team welcome Levante UD to the Sánchez-Pizjuán on Thursday and then make the trip to the Camp Nou to play Barcelona on Sunday.
