Sevilla FC began a new Champions League campaign last night, putting in a very strong performance against Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge. It is the team's first points in Group E, a positive start for the team in Europe's most prestigious competition.
In the six times that Sevilla FC have made it to the Champions League group stage - it could have been seven were it not for a defeat in the qualifying rounds against Braga in 2010/11 - the team have picked up points in the first match on five occasions, with only one defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in 2007/08, with Juande Ramos' team fallen by three goals to nil in London.
Sevilla FC kept the home side to a record low number of shots in the UCL
Two victories came against Unirea Urziceni in 2009/10 (2-0) and Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2015/16 (3-0), with three draws against Juventus (0-0), Liverpool (2-2) and last night's 0-0 against Frank Lampard's team.
Sevilla FC have therefore started another Champions League campaign off on the right foot, picking up a point in one of the toughest stadiums in England, one of the 'Big Six'. The team also kept Chelsea FC to a record low number of shots for a home side in the UCL group stage, with Lampard's team only registering six shots.
