Sevilla FC's good start to the season can be viewed from many different angles. However, if something that Lopetegui's side have shown is that they know how to keep it tight at the back, which they then use as their base to win games. This doesn't mean for one moment that the team from Nervión play defensively, but what it does show is their strength at the back.
So much so, that seeing Sevilla behind on the scoreline this season is somewhat of a rare occurence, something that their figures show. Specifically, if you were to crunch the numbers of the 13 league games played, you would find that they have been in front for 409 minutes (34.96%), drawing for 650 (55.56%) and only losing for 111 (9.49%). The numbers for the Europa League are even more impressive. After four games, they been leading for a total of 216 minutes (60%) and drawing for the other 144 minutes (40%). Put together, the statistics make for a convincing reading. After 17 competitve games played, the team have only been behind for 7.25% of the total minutes played. 51.89% of the time (794 minutes) they have been drawing and therefore, the other 40.85% (625 minutes), they have been in front.
In fact, Sevilla FC have only been losing on four different moments. The first time was in the 26 minutes after Benzema struck in the game at home against Real Madrid. Next, were the 8 minutes that saw Eibar take the win in Ipurúa. Then, the 14 minutes in which Real Sociedad had the lead in Nervión, before Sevilla came back to win that match. Lastly, there are the 63 minutes that FC Barcelona were in front for after Luis Suárez put them into the lead at the Camp Nou. The latter took place just before the October international break, which means that since then in the seven games played (630 minutes), they haven't been behind. The next obstacle will take place at the José Zorrilla stadium, where Sevilla FC will be looking to keep this impressive run going.
