Sevilla FC Femenino have put themselves into the quarter-finals of the Copa de la Reina after beating Athletic Club 1-0 in Lezama. The first half couldn't have started better for the girls as after a close attempt by Toni Payne, Débora García would surprise everyone with a shot from distance that would settle in the top corner, beating Athletic club keeper, Quiñones, at the six minute mark. This was to be the first and definitive goal of the tie.

The match took a twist and intensity grew as Iraia's girls were looking get back on level terms. Sevilla also had opportunities to get the second with Vasconcelos, who had some clear chances at the half way point of the first half. With ten minutes to go Inma and Payne linked up well but couldn't put the defying touch on a well-worked move before the break. Soon after, our Argentine boss was forced to make his first change when Klára Cahynová came on in place of Natalia Gaitán who exited the field with a niggle.

The team started in the best way and knew how to keep calm in one of the biggest games of the season

After the break Bilbao restructured things in the search for a win and, despite giving it their all, all they found was a tight-knitted white and red defence. Furthermore, Toro's girls looked for a second with plenty of determination as chances fell to Nago, Inma and Jessica Martínez. Some more changes were made and Araya also had a great chance from far out with fifteen minutes to go. In a game of give-and-take, the home team wouldn't give up as Erika Vázquez and Eunate, who came fresh off the bench, tried to breath a new lease of life into their team and into their game. Nowhere near from seeming tired, both teams dug deep and didn't give up until the end, Athletic in the Sevilla area and Sevilla continuing to break out but at the same time staying firm. Credit is due to the Mexican debutant between the sticks, Itzel González, who wouldn't concede and would make a standout intervention in the 93rd minute.

With this win, Sevilla FC pick up a historic win as the girls have never achieved victory in Lezama. The girls have now reached the quarter-finals in yet another showing that the cup is what gets the group excited as they go out fighting and believing year on year. Now all that's left to do this week is to face our rivals in the derby this Sunday in the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán at 17:00 PM.
