Sevilla FC Femenino suffered defeat at the hands of Villarreal CF (0-3). Cristian Toro's girls were uncomfortable throughout the game and ultimately fell to an unforgiving opposition, who didn't fail to capitalise. The second half proved to be the most costly as Monforte's tactics proved to be too much to handle for the Femenino.
Despite early pressure on Elena de Toro's goal from a Lucía Ramírez header, Sevilla found themselves stagnant in the first half. From there onwards, Villarreal started to build some momentum but without really causing any danger to Esther Sullastres' goal. The scoreline would stay the same going into the break with everything to be settled in the second half.
Karen Araya had the chance to equalise from 12 yards, however she saw her penalty rattle the bar
What came as a shock to most was the scoreline after the break. The second half got off to a bad start as Tere Morató headed home from a well-worked free kick, something that ultimately proved to be decisive. At the hour mark, Chilean, Karen Araya, saw her penalty blast against the bar and subsequently not converted on the rebound by Eli del Estal. From what could have so nearly been 1-1 was soon 0-2, thanks to another dead-ball situation from Shelia Guijarro. With little time to spare and with the team trying to recompose itself, Villarreal delivered the third and definitive blow with Tere Morató doubling her tally. It was a game in which, even after a few different substitutions, the team had to end the game with a player less due to Inma Gabarro's injury after a collision inside the opposition's box.
Even after this setback there is no time to feel sorry for ourselves as the next match day is right around the corner with an away fixture against Deportivo Alavés this Sunday at 12:00 PM.
