Mexico national coach, Gerardo Martino, has called up Sevilla FC winger Jesús 'Tecatito' Corona for the Aztecs' triple-header in the upcoming league break. Effectively, Tecatito will travel to Mexico to play in three CONCACAF qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Mexico kicks off the triple-header with a visit to the Kingston Independence Park in Jamaica in the early hours of Thursday the 27th of January to Friday the 28th. Soon after, Jesús will play the remaining two games at the Estadio Azteca de México DF, first against Costa Rica, in the early hours of Sunday the 30th of January to the 31st, and then against Panama, on Wednesday the 2nd to Thursday the 3rd of February.
Currently Mexico, who sit third in the CONCACAF standings with six games remaining, are a point from the United States and two from leaders, Canada. The eventual top three will qualify and go directly to Qatar, whereas the fourth placed team (at this moment, Costa Rica who are level on points with Mexico) will battle for qualification in the play-offs.
