Another year on, Sevilla FC have fulfilled the one hundred year tradition of the club by attending Seville Cathedral. The First Team squad, led by the Chairman, the First-Team Coach and its captains, carried out the traditional offering of flowers to the Virgen de los Reyes, honouring a ritual which this year, if possible, is even more significant.
The figure of Antonio Puerta was in the minds of all present, who, ten years after his death remains a role-model, not only for First Team players but for the players of every affiliate player who competes with the Sevilla badge on his or her chest. Once the mass was over, José Castro, Eduardo Berizzo and the present captains Daniel Carriço, Sergio Escudero and Jesús Navas, made their way up to the altar to make an official floral offering.
At the end of the ceremony, once the traditional appearance of the Chairman before the media had taken place, the squad walked to a nearby restaurant, Robles Placentines, where their official team lunch is taking place. Seven internationals are missing, but not so the ten longest team season-ticket holders. They were all invited to the mass and to the lunch, though four could not attend for health reasons.
