UNBEATEN IN DORTMUND AFTER OUR THIRD VISIT

Although the frequent nature of the last two visits, two in barely a year and a half, almost makes you lose perspective, Sevilla FC returned last night to one of the great fortresses of European football.

The BVB Stadion Dortmund, as it is known in UEFA competitions, with a capacity of around 80,000 people, wasn't enough to deter Sevilla this time round either, as they remain unbeaten in their three historic duels against Borussia Dortmund. Admittedly, the two draws felt very different in terms of their significance, but that does not detract from the value of this statistic.

In the 2010/11 season, coincidentally on Gregorio Manzano's debut as coach, a goal from Cigarini allowed the Sevilla side to take three points in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League. It was quite the feat, despite the fact that Dortmund were perhaps not playing at their best, but with a tireless home support.

It took a whole decade for the tie to reappear in the fixture list, in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 and after a difficult 3-2 defeat in the first leg, which meant they needed to pull off an upset in Germany.

We weren't able to get a winner, but they pulled on their courage to end up getting a draw that made the fact they were knocked out a bit harder to take, seeing as we came so close.

Edin Terzic's side, the only coach to have been in the dugout for more than one of these fixtures, were unable to take advantage of City's slip-up in Denmark to put themselves within touching distance of the Manchester side.

Nianzou and Bellingham cancelled each other out in a draw which, while bringing the Germans closer to their ultimate goal of second place, allowed Sampaoli's men to remain undefeated on one of the toughest stages in continental football.
