Despite taking the lead on two occasions thanks to an Álex Suárez own goal and Juanlu's first league goal for the club, García Pimienta's side were denied all three points in the first league game of the season

We picked up our first point of the 2024/25 season with a 1-1 draw against UD Las Palmas at the Estadio de Gran Canaria. In García Pimienta's first official game as head coach, we dominated for large spells and twice took the league. The first came after an Álex Muñoz goal but that was cancelled out by an own goal from Tanguy Nianzou. Juanlu then put us ahead in the second half before a goal from Sandro ten minutes later ensured both teams would take a point

The game started with us on the front foot and early on Cillessen was able to keep out a powerful shot from Ocampos from the edge of the area after the Argentine was alive to a rebound from Isaac's initial attempt. With Lukebakio a constant threat, it was a strong start to the game and the reward game soon after when after a brilliant run from Pedrosa, Álex Suárez turned the ball into his own net. Las Palmas responded well though and Nyland had to be alert to keep out an effort from McBurnie from inside the six-yard box. With half-time looming disaster struck as Nianzou in attempting to make an interception ahead of McBurnie, diverted the ball into his own net and so the teams headed into the interval with the scores level.

Juanlu scored to put us ahead for the second time in the second half

It was a more even contest at the start of the second half with the home side enjoying the greater share of possession. A lovely flowing team move brought the second of the night as Nyland played the ball out to Ocampos, who in turn clipped the ball over the top of the spin for Isaac sprinting down the wing. He looked up and picked out Juanlu arriving from the deep, who kept his composure with a cool finish to make it 2-1. The joy was short-lived, however, as substitute Sandro levelled the scores after cutting inside and firing past Nyland. With the game now open as both teams pushed for a winner, Lukebakio nearly made himself a hero at the backpost, but he fired into the side netting.

With added time approaching, Sow had a great chance to seal an away win with a shot that went just wide of Cillessen's body after a good run down the left flank by Peque and instead, we leave with a point. Our next match is at home at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán against Villarreal CF next Friday at 21:30 CEST.
