The teams for the UEFA Super Cup final 2023 are known and the stage is set. After their victory last night against Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul, Manchester City will be the side to face Sevilla at the Georgios Karaiskakis in Athens on the 16th of August at 21:00 PM. It will be the fifth time the two teams have come toe-toe-toe, having faced each other in the Champions League group stage in 2015/16 and earlier this season.

Regarding the trophy's history, one Super Cup can already be found in the extensive Sevilla trophy cabinet, having beaten FC Barcelona in the final back in 2006. The other finals have been less fruitful in terms of victories. For Manchester City, it will be their first time. Up until last night, their only other European success came back in 1970 when they lifted the UEFA Cup Winner's Cup, three years prior to the inauguration of the Super Cup final.

The battles between the two teams have so far been dominated by the blues who have prevailed on each of the four previous occasions that the two teams have met. Back in the 2015/16 season, City won 2-1 at their place and 3-1 at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. This season, however, City won by four goals to nil in Seville and added three more at home in a 3-1 win. Aside from this, it will be the third time Sevilla faces an English team in a final, after defeating Middlesbrough and Liverpool in the 2006 and 2016 UEFA Europa League finals, respectively.
