Our first-team head coach Xavi García Pimienta spoke to us after Saturday's victory over Getafe CF. He began by providing an injury updates: "Marcão received a very serious blow to his nose, he was feeling dizzy and asked to be substituted as he couldn't give 100 per cent. He has been honest. In principle it's a knock, so let's hope it's nothing more than that."
"We came out very well and subdued Getafe team. We made two mistakes, including a very serious one in which they could have scored. Jesús [Navas]'s goal came from a good move on the left flank. On the counter-attack, we had some very clear chances. In the second half we were very good, but when you have a player sent off, things can then become nervy. I'm happy because we knew how to dig in for the last few minutes," commented the coach.
Another key moment in the game was the possible penalty claimed in the Getafe 18-yard box: "I haven't spoken to the referees; they reviewed it and I understand that it wasn't a handball. Luckily we won and it will remain a mere incident." García Pimienta was also happy when it came to assessing Peque's performance: ‘I'm happy for Peque, he had worked hard and hadn't yet the chance to start. We asked him to play close to the box. In the second half, he slotted in perfectly. We expect him to eventually score goals, and he has the ability to do that."
Finally, the manager dedicated the victory to the fans: "It was much needed, for the team and the fans. The fans have gone all out for the team, and we've given everything. Special thanks to the fans - they carried us across the line. This victory is for them, they deserve it." He also paid tribute to the team's captain and goalscorer, Jesús Navas: "He's a lovely guy, giving everyone a hug. I told him that if he scored the second goal then he could stay on the pitch! He had a spectacular 65 minutes. He is an example for young people to follow, and I'm very happy for him."
