Nemanja Gudelj, Álvaro Fernández and José Ángel Carmona were in the spotlight after Friday night's win in Catalonia. Discussing the match against RCD Espanyol, captain Gudelj firstly insisted that the team ‘can be proud of what we achieved today: two goals, a clean sheet. We faced a strong oppositionI who made things difficult at the beginning, but we managed to hold on and then we dominated much of the game.
'There are things to improve, but I think we can be happy in attack and also in defence. We all know that Lukébakio is in good form. We've shown those on the outside what Sevilla are all about and we need to keep it up.
Álvaro Ferllo, who had to replace Nyland in the second half, was pleased to have made his debut: ‘You can't ask for more. Victory away from home, a clean sheet. I felt very useful, being able to help the team on the pitch gives a bit of meaning to all the work I do. Nyland felt something in his knee, but hopefully it's nothing. I have to withstand Lukébakio and his ability every day in training. He has a lot of potential... now it's time for the Copa del Rey, we have to go all out to make it through to the next round.’
Carmona also highlighted, among other things, how deserved the victory was for the collective, but also his individual growth: ‘I'm very happy because we earned the victory after all the hard work we put in every day. I'm always ready to play, Sevilla is my home and I've been preparing for this for a long time, and the coach is giving me confidence. Lukébakio has given us a lot, I'm sure there is still a lot more to come from him. The homegrown players are instilled with the grit and the courage that Sevilla stands for. You can see that when you take to the pitch, that's the belief we have.’
