The date has been set for the second 'Ramón Encinas' Manager Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The honour will be bestowed upon Joaquín Caparrós on 21st November at 13:00 CET in the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán's executive lounge. Club president, José Castro, announced back in March 2020 that Capparós would be presented with this well-deserved award, just days before the quarantine was imposed as part of measures against COVID-19, when Caparrós left his position as our Director of Talent Development to take on the role of Armenia's national team coach.
Caparrós is a living legend at Sevilla FC and holds several records at the club. He is the coach with the most official matches under his management - 241 - and the one who has achieved the most victories - 111. This is a double merit that he also holds when it comes to first division matches, with 167 games and 68 victories. The man who follows Manolo Cardo in joining the list of Golden Bench recipients has managed the first team on three occassions. The first, from the summer of 2000 - with the team in the Second Division - until June 2005, when he left with the team in the top flight after achieving European qualification for the second consecutive season.
13 years later - after spells at Deportivo de la Coruña, Athletic Club, RCD Mallorca, Levante UD, Granada CF and CA Osasuna, and experiences outside Spain with Swiss club Neuchatel and Qatar's Al Ahli - he returned home in April 2018. He did so at a difficult time, after the departure of Vincenzo Montella and with the objective of securing a European spot, something he achieved with one game to spare. That summer he took over as director of football at Sevilla FC, although at the end of the 2018/19 season he returned to the bench after the departure of Pablo Machín. After eleven games, he managed to repeat the European feat with a sixth place in the league. Finally, between the summer of 2019 and March 2020, he served as Director of Talent Development in the youth set-up.
Caparrós receives the highest recognition available to a Sevilla FC coach for his outstanding work with the club, but also as a reward for his entire career. He is currently the coach to have managed the sixth most matches in the history of the Primera División, with a total of 510. He is only surpassed by Luis Aragonés, Javier Irureta, Miguel Muñoz, Víctor Fernández and Javier Clemente.
