Our 2025 did not start the way we wanted. Our Copa del Rey Round of 32 fixture against Almería finished 4-1 to the home side. We started well and took the lead inside five minutes thanks to Isaac Romero. The second half, however, followed a completely different story. Marezi and Luis Suárez turned the tie on its head early on before two goals followed later on.
Having started on the front foot, Isaac opened the scoring with a lovely finish into the bottom corner. Dodi Lukébakio crossed in from the right-hand side, finding our young striker via a touch by Stanis Idumbo. Isaac turned well before drilling into the far corner for his third goal in four games. Only a few minutes later, Juanlu was sent racing clear by Lukébakio, but the Almería defence recovered to block Juanlu's effort out for a corner. The home side were certainly under pressure during the opening stages.
After a positive first half, the momentum swung towards the home side
Lukébakio came close with an effort that whistled over the bar before Almería created some opportunities of their own, Luis Suárez and Melamed coming closest. The equaliser, however, arrived at the start of the second half courtesy of an incredible long-range effort by Marezi that found the net via the inside of the post. Two minutes later, Isaac thought he had restored our lead only for referee Busquets Ferrer to give a foul against Juanlu.
The home side took the lead almost straight after. A nice move down the right-hand side eventually made its way to Suárez, who tapped into an empty net. On the hour mark, Isaac had a golden opportunity to bring us back level. Having gone round the Almería goalkeeper Maximiano, he was denied by Radovanovic who cleared off the line before Idumbo had a speculative effort saved comfortably. With less than 15 minutes left on the clock, Suárez extended Almería's lead. The Colombian striker completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot deep into injury time to seal the tie. Following the cup exit, we will be back in LaLiga action on Saturday when we take on Valencia at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
