They say Getafe is never an easy place to play and despite being down the bottom of the table it proved no different this time around. In a game lacking quality and excitement, each team managed to muster just one shot on target each in the afternoon sunshine in Madrid. Neither ourselves nor our hosts could find a breakthrough, although we managed to keep the unbeaten run going to the second half of the season so far. The other major highlight was Akor Adams coming on for Saúl in the closing stages but the Nigerian couldn't make it a dream debut by finding the back of the net.
We came out attacking and soon had a dangerous chance on target that ended up being blocked by the Getafe players Bordalás sent his team to press high up, which hindered our possession but looked to find Lukebakio out wide on the right. However, the two big chances of the first half came from the home side and Juanmi Jiménez on his debut. Although in the first one the VAR might have ended up signaling offside, Juanmi received Uche's pass and looked to lob Nyland, who at the last minute produced an acrobatic save to tip the ball over the crossbar. Soon after he then found himself one-against-one but blazed over from inside the six-yard box.
Our best chances fell to Lukebakio in added time
Gudelj, had one of our best chances of a poor first half with a free kick that grazed the side netting. Lukebakio then somehow managed to shoot off target with the goal gaping - although the Belgian attacker was in an offside position and so it wouldn't have counted. García Pimienta made the changes until the last quarter of the match and started by bringing on Ejuke and Kike Salas. With ten minutes to g,o it was the turn of Akor Adams, who came on for his debut.
A collision between Berrocal and David Soria forced the goalkeeper to be treated. In injury time we nearly snatched all three points as Lukebakio skipped infield and curled a shot narrowly wide on Soria's left post. In the end, it would finish level, as we now look ahead to the visit from FC Barcelona next Sunday, without the suspended Carmona.
