Sevilla FC Women claimed an important 2-1 victory against FC Levante Las Planas on Sunday, having been behind early on. Coach Cristian Toro was delighted with the courage and determination showed by his players during the match to clinch the 3 points, which relieve some pressure ahead of the October break.
Toro's side started brightly with Diana Gomes coming close to finishing Rosa Otermín's cross. However, 16 minutes into the game Lahmari gave Levante the lead with the home side's first real opportunity. Despite being 1-0 down, Sevilla FC Women were on the front foot, searching for an equaliser. That equaliser was found in the 36th minute when Eva Llamas put the ball in the back of the net following Cahynová's flick-on. The goal spurred on the visitors, who came so close to taking the lead before half time. First with a Martín-Prieto shot that hit the woodwork before Gemma Gili came close, but they could not beat Nay Cáceres in the Levante goal.
Following a swift counterattack, Débora García had a great chance to put Toro's side in front during added time, but she could not convert. After the break, Levante grew into the game and it became a much more even contest. Despite the game being slightly scrappy at times, chances fell to both sides. Martín-Prieto had Sevilla's best chances, but she could not convert. In an open contest, both coaches introduced players from the bench in the search of victory. In truth, the home side's substitutions seemed to have the bigger impact.
Injury time jubilation
However it was Sevilla FC Women who left the ground celebrating. After a great save by Yolanda Aguirre to deny Levante, Inma Gabarro was the quickest to react to a cross from the right and managed to got a shot away, beating the Levante keeper and completing a comeback victory in injury time. Cristian Toro's side now have two weeks off during October international break before returning to action against league-leaders FC Barcelona.
