It was not the farewell that Jesús Navas had dreamed of. After bidding farewell in front of the fans week ago in Nervión with a much-needed victory, our captain made his final career appearance at the  Santiago Bernabéu. However, on the pitch Real Madrid took an early lead -despite Isaac's goal- and managed to reach the last half hour of the game with a three-goal advantage. It was then that Navas came on for the last time and the team responded in the final stretch of the game. Isaac hit the post, Lokonga forced a save from Courtois and Lukebakio scored with minutes to go as the game ended in a 4-2 defeat.

Real Madrid took control of the match very early on with shots from outside the box. The opening goal game with just ten minutes of the clock as After Rodrygo's break down the left allowed Mbappé to shoot from distance and beat Álvaro Ferllo with a strike from distance. The Frenchman had another chance soon after with a cross from the other flank by Lucas that went over, but it was soon 2-0. A short corner, an open pass to the midfield and another stunning goal from distance, this time by Fede Valverde, to double Madrid's advantage. We tried to fight back but Rodrygo had a chance to score the third minutes later although his shot went narrowly wide.

Mbappé and Valverde put the home side 2-0 up within 20 minutes

Madrid slowed down butt with half an hour played, Lucas once again made an impact on the right and crossed to the heart of the area, where Rodrygo was lurking to fire home a third and effectively seal the game. However, straight from the restart Juanlu broke down the right and crossed into the box where Isaac headed past Courtois to give a faint glimmer of hope. Lucas had the chance for a fourth but Álvaro denied him while Gudelj, from the edge of the area and after a corner, shot over the top in the last action of the first half.

Navas was aplauded before kick off and when he game on in the second half

After the restart Isaac had a great chance when Idumbo intercepted a pass inside the area, however the striker couldn't get his second as his shot stung the palms of Courtois. Five minutes later Real Madrid had a fourth as Brahim finishes a good team move. With half an hour to go, Navas came on to a standing ovation. He back-heeled the ball to Isaac who then hit the post as we continue to fight.

With Navas on the pitch Lokonga came close with a good long-range shot that Courtois pushed away. Just after, the Belgian goalkeeper could do nothing against his compatriot Lukebakio, who came in from the left and struck powerfully at the near post to get a late consolation. There was no time for much more, but there was time to see again the emotion of Jesus Navas after his final whistle. A difficult final game before the winter break, next up is our cup tie against UD Almeria on January 4.
