There was no slip-up in our visit to the Nou Estadi Municipal de Olot in the second round of the Copa del Rey. A penalty from Montiel gave us the lead, minutes after the home side had been denied an opener by a great penalty save from Álvaro Ferllo against Chema Moreno's intentions. In the second half, Juanlu and Iheanacho sealed the victory in a second half in which we were the more dominant team and booked our place in the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey. In stoppage time, Ayala scored a late consolation goal from a corner.
We started looking to get high up the pitch and dominate from the opening whistle. The home side responded with a long-range shot that was deflected low by Álvaro Ferllo in a lively start of the match. Near the midway point of the first half, Cuadra Fernández pointed to the penalty spot after a questionable foul by Agoumé. From the penalty, Álvaro Ferllo guessed right and produced a strong save down low as justice was served. Three minutes later, a cross by Jesús Navas from the right flank hit the hand of an Olot defender and the referee once again pointed to the spot. Montiel made no mistake, sending the keeper the wrong way and giving us the lead.
Saúl, who returned to the starting lineup, was subbed in the second half as Stanis Idumbo made his own return from injury. The first chance of the second period came with a curling shot from distance from Iheanacho that grazed the outside of the post. Three minutes after the restart, Juanlu took advantage of Barco's cross from the left wing to score the second goal with his first touch after arriving from deep into the six-yard box. With the game under control, García Pimienta made the changes bringing on Peque and Pedro Ortiz. With the clock ticking down Idumbo burst down the wing and played an inch-perfect pass to Iheanacho at the back post to scored the third of the night and seal our place in Monday's draw. Next up is a trip to the capital to face Atlético de Madrid on Sunday December 8 at 21:00 CET.
