The main question at García Pimienta's press conference before Saturday's visit to Getafe was whether Akor Adams would be in the squad or note: “He has just been training and will be in the squad tomorrow. He is ready to play and perform well. He has done two good training sessions and he has to adapt to the language and the way of training and playing. It will be progressive but he can't wait to get started. He is a good lad and it is a very good opportunity for him to be in Sevilla. He is going to give everything because that is his way of playing."
He also acknowledged that we need to be more clinical: “We are one of the teams that generate the most chances offensively and we need to be more solid at the back. The other day, we had 25 shots but only scored one goal. Espanyol scored one and we were unable to win. If we are more solid defensively, and I'm not just talking about the defense, we could get more wins. We generate a lot of chances but we don't score. We start with the defensive system and we are very optimistic about the second half of the season, so we can have a very good end to the season."
Another of the many players he asked about was Suso: "Suso is just another player in the squad and I imagine he will have offers because he is a great player. I understand that if there is an offer that interests him he will leave and if not he will stay. For me, he is as important as the rest and if he has not played more it is because I have chosen to play other players ahead of him. He doesn't miss any training, he trains well and has quality, but he hasn't participated as much. I have no complaints with him. Any player who leaves should be replaced. We have been strengthened with Vargas and Akor, who have raised our level, but if any player leaves, that position should be replaced."
He also confirmed the departure of Pedro Ortiz: “He has said goodbye today to us, to the staff and to his teammates. It is true that he has not had opportunities. He hasn't missed any training sessions or injuries except in pre-season. I wish him the best of luck because he deserves it, he is a lovely guy and a great player. He's young and has many years left in football, so I wish him all the best.”
"Getafe are in great form at the minute"
On whether Akor's arrival will lead to playing two strikers up top: “I have to adapt myself to the strengths of the squad. If we see that we can be more direct and offensive with two strikers than with one, we will do it. At the moment he's been training for a couple of days, he has to understand our way and I'm sure he will. He is in great shape and little by little he will adapt. We expect a lot from Akor because he has the quality to play here and he comes with a desire and hunger that you can see in his eyes. He has the opportunity to play for Sevilla."
Kike Salas is back: “Yesterday he did a partial training session without problems. Today he trained fully and will be in the squad. He is feeling much better and those 48 hours really helped. He will play tomorrow if needed." On Iheanacho, he added “He has many offers and is deciding his best option. He will be in the squad tomorrow but he has to choose his best option." On Barco: “Valentin is about to resolve his future. If he is a Sevilla player on Tuesday, he will be another player in the squad because he wants to play. If he stays, he will have to earn his place. He is a player on loan, he is not getting the minutes and is thinking about leaving." Finally, he confirmed that Nianzou will miss the rest of the season: “He has been unlucky with injuries but he is an incredible central defender. This season he has performed very well for us and I'm very sorry for him because he will miss the rest of the season. He didn't deserve it because he was making a very important effort to be the player we know he is. I am convinced that he will recover and come back to perform at his best."
All of this comes against a Getafe side in great form: “Maybe we are playing them at the worst moment. They are come into the game after beating Real Sociedad 3-0, drawing against Barcelona, winning at Las Palmas and in the Copa del Rey. That's why Bordalás is the coach of the month. His team are in great form and I love it. Eight consecutive seasons in the First Division, without relegation, ten years in the Second Division with two promotions. He always achieves his goals. They are at the bottom, but if they beat us they are one point behind us. They will come at us and it will be a difficult match for us at their ground. I remember how hard it was for us to beat them here at home and we will have to be very concentrated because they generate chances in open play. They know what they are playing for and that is very important. But if we give our best we will always be closer to winning than not. All matches are very difficult. We have not been able to win at home against Valencia and Espanyol, who are close to the bottom of the table. Against a team like Getafe, who have been with their coach for so long and have everything so internalised, it is even more difficult. We talk about playing styles. We all want the same thing. Bordalás wants to win and I want to win too. As there is no magic way to win for sure, we have a way of understanding the game, with a profile of players, and we try to make them adapt and bring out their best version”.
To finish, a clear message about the transfer window: "In the world of football a lot of things happen and we have the tendency for everything to happen at the last minute. Unfortunately, and I say this clearly, there are still four days to go before there are any movements. We have to keep in mind that we need a solution immediately and I am in constant dialogue with the sporting director. We are prepared for everything that can happen. When the window closes, I will have the best possible squad and I will not make any excuses."
