Sevilla FC- Deportivo Alavés

Matchday 32 LALIGA EA Sports

Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán

Sunday 20 April 18:30 CEST

History

Deportivo Alavés were founded in 1921 and hail from the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Basque Country. Known for their blue and white kit they play their home games at Mendizorroza. Alavés' greatest achievement came in 2001, reaching the UEFA Cup final, narrowly losing 5–4 to Liverpool. They also reached the Copa del Rey final in 2017, falling to Barcelona. After years of fluctuating fortunes—including promotions, relegations, and financial struggles—the club returned to La Liga for the 2023–24 season following a play-off victory over Levante.

Standings

After finishing 10th in their first season back in the top-flight last season, this season has been a struggle as they find themselves in 17th place on 30 points from 31 games – just one point and one place above the relegation zone ahead of kick off. Having gone seven games without a win from January to March, Alavés have managed to steady the ship with two wins, a draw and two defeats in their past five games – the highlight being a 1-0 win against Champions League chasing Villarreal CF.

Key player: Kike García

The striker is still going strong, aged 35 and is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career with a total of 11 league goals so far this season, making him responsible for exactly one third of the total goals scored by Alavés this season, with the next highest scorer joint on just four goals. Among his standout performances was a hat-trick against Real Betis back in January in a 3-1 win. Standing at 1.86m tall, he is a threat from set pieces and proves useful when defending in his own box as well, in fact he is in the 93rd percentile for aerial duels in LALIGA this season. His 2,119 minutes are the 7th highest in the squad, showing how even at 35 he remains a trusted man for Eduardo Coudet’s side.

Coach: Eduardo Coudet

Eduardo "El Chacho" Coudet is an Argentine football manager and former midfielder, currently coaching La Liga side Alavés. As a player, he featured for Rosario Central, River Plate, and Celta Vigo, among others. He began his managerial career at Rosario Central, later leading Racing Club to the 2018–19 Argentine Primera División title. He also coached in Mexico, Brazil, and Spain, winning the Campeonato Mineiro with Atlético Mineiro in 2023. Coudet managed Celta Vigo from 2020 to 2022, returned to Internacional in 2023, and took them to the Copa Libertadores semi-finals. In December 2024, he took charge of Alavés one point above the relegation zone.
