The 2024 ediiton of the Sports Data Forum kicked off on Thursday at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán with an opening address by club executives in front of an audience of more than 500 people, including postgraduate students who work or are involved with the Sevilla FC Innovation Center, the Sports Data Campus and la Universidad Católica de Murcia (UCAM). The inaugral session featured talks from our President, José María del Nido Carrasco, and Sporting Director, Víctor Orta.
The senior personnel, alongside the head of Research and Development, José María Cruz Gallardo, issued a warm welcome to everyone in attendance, and highlighted the pioneering work of our Innovation Center to enhance education on digitalisation within Spanish sport, and helped mobilise the club's own technological development. Through the Innovation Center, el Sevilla FC pretende compartir con terceros no competidores directos todo el conocimiento adquirido a lo largo de los años.
Juan Esteban Gómez Llamas, who is responsible for Digitalisation and Improvement at the club, expanded on some of the ways we support the industry: "With our close partners at the Sports Data Campus, we offer two Masters courses on Big Data in Scouting, as well as Innovation and Technology in Sporting Entities." Víctor Orta spoke in detail about both areas during his roundtable disucssion on the use analytics in football.
In addition, David Sáez, CEO of Sports Data Campus, emphasised the importance of this year's event and of his organisation's ongoing partnership with the club: "Sevilla FC is world-renowned, not just in sport, but also for its data analysis as well as its research and development, which are the envy of many other clubs." That status is the result of strategic planning over many years: "We are an incredibly innovative club because of the risks we have taken across all areas of the organisation. We now have the ability to be at the forefront of technological advances in sport, and can exploit opportunities that others are not even able to detect,", added Gómez Llamas.
A special guest at the ceremony was first-team player Óliver Torres, who presented a signed shirt and two tickets for our next home match against Mallorca to the winner of a competition organisedby the Innovation Center.
