Sevilla FC's efforts at the Mendizorroza Stadium gave them no more than a draw against Deportivo Alavés in the end. Sampaoli's side started well in Vitoria, and in the first half Ben Yedder gave the visitors the lead, beating the offside trap to fire home from just inside the 18-yard box. But the home side pushed and managed to break down the Sevilla defence 30 minutes after the restart. A wicked bounce played a key role in the equaliser, even though the home side were on top in the second half. The draw was a fair result that leaves Sevilla slightly further behind first and second place but seven points ahead of fourth.
