Marcos Acuña and Gonzalo Montiel were both in the starting XI for Argentina in their World Cup Qualifier match against Brazil. However, the game was brought to an abrupt end after only six minutes of play when Brazilian officials walked on to the pitch demanding that four Argentinian players had broken the Brazilian Covid rules. The four Argentinian players in question were Emiliano Martínez, Lo Celso, Cristian Romero and Emi Buendía, who all play in the Premier League.

The Brazilian health officials claimed that the four players breached the country's Covid-19 rules as anyone who is travelling from the United Kingdom to Brazil must quarantine for 14 days upon arrival to the country. As a result, the game's referee, Jesús Valenzuela, decided to suspend the match.
