The Catalan prepares for his third season with the club by setting the bar high: "It is difficult to improve on what we have previously achieved, both on a personal and collective level"

It was Joan Jordán's turn on Friday to speak to Sevilla FC official media and touch upon how the preseason is going, which has been easier this year: "We've had around six weeks of time off to recover both mentally and physically. We needed a bit of a break after two very intense years, but of course we've missed putting on the shirt and being with our teammates. We have a big dream, and now is the time to put in the hard work, and use it for the upcoming season. We are in a good place right now, we're prepared for what awaits us and we're ready to go".

The Catalan also feels happy to be going in to a new season with a good preseason behind the team: "We've had two successful years, and now hopefully a third one, and this one is on the back of a a good few weeks rest. Our fans can return, which is obviously so important for us. All of this can push us forward because we will definitely feel more confident before games knowing that our fans will be there cheering us on. This is a very exciting year which will hopefully bring us a lot of success".

In addition, he is looking forward to the friendly against Coventry City tomorrow: "Training allows us to focus on several things, but as a player, you just want that first game to come, to feel the excitement of competing again. We're excited for tomorrow so we can keep preparing and keep improving.

As it is such a key part of the dressing room, Jordán knows that it is vital not to lose this team spirit: "It's one of the things we need to protect the most. We have a good atmosphere, and the team is full of good human beings who want to work hard. It is up to us to create this atmosphere, and with the arrival of Dmitrovic, it is an added bonus to the comradeship. We welcome people in the best way because that is how they welcomed us. It's vital that we don't lose this team spirit".

In terms of the goalkeeper, he highlighted his growth year on year: "He's a goalkeeper who has developed immensely. With Eibar, he wasn't the first choice goalkeeper at the start, but the position was his in preseason. He's gone from strength to strength and he is here with us now due to his achievements as a player. The goalkeeper position is very secure in terms of Bono and Dmitrovic's quality, and by competing against each other, it will only serve to improve both players".

"Dmitrovic is a great goalkeeper and he is here with us now due to his achievements as a player"

The midfielder looked back on his time with Sevilla, as well as looking forward to the future: "I've had two great seasons here, the first with a trophy and Champions League classification, and a record number of points in the second. On a personal and collective level, it's very difficult to improve. I have grown so much as a person and footballer since I arrived and I want to keep improving. It is difficult to improve collectively, but we still have room for improvement. We need to continue working on what we have previously done, and growing collectively as a team. There may be clubs who will win a title occasionally, which is something historic, but the difficult thing is maintaining this form. It will be an exciting but difficult season.

There is great competitiveness for positions in midfield, but Joan does not shy away from it all: "As I said last season, I don't know whether more midfielders will arrive, but our midfield is full of talent and healthy competition. This makes us all better, and the more quality, the better. It was the key to maintaining our form in the second season, and we hope for more of the same this season. Of course, there will be changes but hopefully the majority of us will stay, and those who come in can add to our quality. The transfer market still has a long way to go, but I think it will be a promising season".

"The more quality in the midfield position, the better"

What was achieved in La Liga last season is an incentive: "Having options three days from the end highlights how well we did. It was such a shame not to go all the way because we were so close. Our aim is to be ambitious and fight until the end whilst working hard and giving it our all".

Jordán also mentions the return of the fans: "Their encouragement will definitely help us. We need them to support us and of course, there might be a few glitches along the way, but we need their support in the toughest times. We're trying our best to turn the dream in to a reality, and I am convinced that this team can build something special together. We're looking forward to having the fans close to us once more when we play against Rayo and get our first three points of the season".
