34 points; third in the table with 10 wins, 4 draws and 4 defeats. That's how Sevilla FC have finished off 2019 and, above all, with an immense happiness after beating RCD Mallorca away from home. A goal in each half; one from Diego Carlos and one from Banega (from the penalty spot), left Sevilla with the winning feeling over the Christmas holidays. It was the team's sixth away win of the league season as they notched up another clean sheet... not a bad Christmas present at all!

Sevilla FC were leading at half-time at the Son Moix after Diego Carlos headed in from a Banega corner after 20 minutes. However, things could have been different after Budimir had the hosts level, only for his goal to be ruled out for offside.

Mallorca missed a golden opportunity after only 2 minutes, as Lago Junior blazed over the bar from only a few yards out

After barely 2 minutes of the game, the home side should have taken the lead as Lago Junior missed a clear goalscoring opportunity from inside the 6 yard box, as he blazed the cutback from Kubo over the bar. This was an early warning sign for Lopetegui's men, and forced them into having to change their intensity from the offset. Ocampos and Munir were both looking dangerous down the wings, but couldn't unfortunately find the opening goal for themselves. The goal did eventually come in the first half from a corner, which was whipped in by Banega and headed home by Diego Carlos.

Mallorca started the second half with a high intensity as they went in search of the equaliser. With Vicente Gómez's men continuing to push, VAR came into play as they checked a possible foul on Jordán in the home side's box. The check was made, and a penalty was given. Banega, from 12 yards out, made no mistake as he fired past Reina and gave Sevilla a 2 goal cushion at the Son Moix.

Banega's penalty sealed the three points and took the wind out of Mallorca's sails

From that moment, Mallorca started to lose belief as Lopetegui's men sealed things off at the back. His changes made sure of the win, as the fresh legs came on to make a difference, and make sure of the sixth away win of the season.

After the Christmas break, La Liga returns for Sevilla FC on Friday 3rd January 2020, as they host Athletic Club de Bilbao at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
