The four players agree that, despite a good amount of subduing the opposition, there was a lack of determination in both areas.

Marcão, Jordán, Lamela and Gudelj were interviewed after the defeat against Real Madrid. On what happened at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday night, the Brazilian centre-back was the first to be critical: "It's difficult after conceding three goals after giving the ball away. We have to be more focused, we have to keep going as there is another game coming up and we have to recover. I always want to help the team and give my all, I feel good on the whole although it's difficult after time out, but I think I'm fine".

Joan Jordán was also disappointed by the many moments in which the Sevilla side dominated, but without reaping the rewards: "The truth is that the team started off fearful in the first 10 minutes and they scored a goal. From then on, the game plan started to come together and then Lamela's goal came and just when we had the feeling that we could make our mark on the game, their two goals arrived."

When it was time to do some damage we should have done better and I'm sorry for that, because it was within our grasp. The feeling was collective, we were very comfortable on the ball at times, we tried to get to the final third of the pitch and do some damage and when it was perhaps time to take that step, their goal came. At times the plan worked, but we should have been more aggressive in their area. The positive thing is that we're getting better and better at what the coach wants, but I think we can improve a lot and that we're going to play a more enriching style".

Also appearing in the Spanish capital was Erik Lamela, who spoke of the group's determination in spite of the odds being stacked against them: "This time the goal wasn't even enough for a draw. We're a little disappointed with how things finished, but we knew what kind of opponent we were up against. They are very good in transitions and they came out very quickly to finish us off.

Maybe we didn't make the right decisions and we have to keep working to make progress. We have to be self-critical and keep improving, today we didn't start out well and we were punished for that, then there was a lot of determination on our part, but then they punished us once more. We'll keep making adjustments to turn the situation around".

To finish, Nemanja Gudelj, who played in the centre of defence today, spoke of his frustration in the same vein as his team-mates: "There is frustration because we dominated for a large part of the game and they scored goals after our mistakes, but against Real Madrid you have to be focused for 95 minutes, because they punish you for the smallest mistake.

Our plan was to look for the second, with an opponent that was still reeling after conceding and that's why it hurts a lot that in no time 2-1 arrived and our progress was lost. On a personal level I try to give everything, today I was needed at centre-back and I always try to do what I can where the coach needs me. On Tuesday we have to go all out to give the fans what they deserve, which is three points at home".
