VÁZQUEZ: "WE'RE READY TO FIGHT FOR THIRD PLACE"

The Argentine addressed his own drop in form "since the day we played Betis", and that of the team: "The elimination from the Champions League was a tough blow"

Franco Vázquez offered a general and personal assessment after his return to the pitch as a starter, speaking about how pleased he is to be playing an important role again, as well as getting back to winning ways. "The win was what we wanted and against Deportivo we played well and we were even able to score a lot of goals."

"We were very quick on the attack, we got in down the flanks, and as a result we had a lot of chances to convert. We got those feelings back and, as well as that, it was important that the fans were back. They encourage the team a lot, the opponent feels it and we do too", he commented.

The bad run of results, then, is over. The reason? "It's difficult to identify what happened to the team. That said, the elimination from the Champions League was a tough blow, and after that, a very difficult match in Madrid...We haven't done well but we knew that we had to keep working as we were and that things were going to change. The aim is to end up third, since we were there for a long time. We're one point away from Atlético and ready to fight for that position".

The best way to stay on the right track to achieve that would be winning at the Mestalla on Sunday, a task which won't be easy. "Valencia are coming off a positive run and are doing things well. It's a tough ground. We know that to achieve our objective we have to get points away from home. Ideally three points and, if not, one isn't bad either. But hopefully we'll manage to get a win to say that Sevilla are back".

On a personal level, he recognised that he's not had the best time in terms of football or mindset: "I knew my level was down a bit, maybe since the game against Betis. I worked a lot in that time and on Saturday I got the opportunity. On top of that we won, so perfect. I wasn't in the best frame of mind but it's normal when you don't play. That's in the past now".
