The Chairman underlined that the triumphs of the club are sustained by "constant work", in a system that banks on well thought-out sales that are reinvested in the club to build a better squad (with heavy focus on the first team).

The Chairman of Sevilla FC, José Castro, participated in the International Frankfurt Football Summit 2017 this Thursday. The summit was organised by the renowned Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper for the third successive year. Castro took part in a round-table discussion with the General Manager of PSV Eindhoven, Toon Gerbrands, and the President of Olympique de Mareseille, Jacques-Henri Eyraud and touched on the diverse strategies that allow clubs with less resources than footballing giants to compete at the highest international levels.

Castro explained that the successes of Sevilla FC are no fluke, but the product of hard work: "This is not good fortune, it is work. We have had a lot of mental clarity when selling players and only did so at the right price so we we could reinvest in younger players. These players in turn have reproduced the same standards of performance and we have sold with the ambition of achieving more," he said.

The Nervionense Chairman explained that the key was to be "brave" in transfer policy, both with arrivals and departures, and to bet on the standard of football the club produces: "This is constant work, it's not luck. Of course, any club could say the things I'm saying, I do it and it doesn't work out badly. Maybe not every club knows how to do it the way we have. Or above all else, and I think it could be the most important thing of all, maybe they haven't had the bravery to sell players against the wishes of even their fans. Meanwhile we understand that these sales can be reinvested to buy new talents."

He added: "It's true that clubs are communities built on macroeconomics, but the truth is they will always be communities based on football, this is football, and we have to focus on football. That's to say, when I say 90% of our budget goes on players, it's because we understand that the players are the ones who are going to bring sporting success, which in turn brings us financial success."
