The second leg of the round of 16 of the exciting Copa del Rey gives Sevilla the chance to become quarter-finalists after a 0-2 away victory in the Carranza Stadium. The aim for Montella's Sevilla is to show solidity and conviction without conceding, and to secure the side's fourth cup win of the year

Football continues. An attractive fixture pits Sevilla FC against Cádiz CF in the second leg of the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey and gives Sevilla the chance to continue fighting on all fronts in three elite competitions. Sevilla FC is now one of the select sides to still be alive in La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey and it's in the latter that the Nervionenses will tonight be looking to keep the dream alive. In an exciting January schedule that gives Sevilla the chance to move forwards with heads held high, this Thursday will mean a change in mindset - with a convincing victory and progression to the quarter-finals of the domestic competition the only aim for Montella's men. The 0-2 victory in the first-leg at the Carranza Stadium in Cádiz should not be a point of reference but a jumping off point to keep the side's clean sheet record in the Copa del Rey and to cultivate a pattern of ruthlessness in front of goal. So far the team's goal difference in the competition sits at nine goals scored and zero conceded. The team will also come into the fixture wanting to make up a derby day loss to their loyal fans - who undoubtedly will be expecting a fearsome reaction and a more recognisable Sevilla.

Demands continue: finish the game off quickly and secure comfortable progression to the Copa del Rey quarter-finals

Overlooking the advantage gained by the first-leg win - and respecting a dangerous opponent at all times - Thursday's clash will force Sevilla to look exclusively for a repeat win and continue on their cup journey. Aside from the match itself, Thursday will also give Vincenzo Montella a chance to continue getting to know his side and incorporating ideas for upcoming fixtures that will unveil the best of the Sevillistas. Moreover, it will a chance to show off some of that famous Nervionense DNA that we have shown more than once before: Sevilla never gives up in the face of adversity and Nervión will be there to make sure of it

The Cup run up to now has shown professionalism and commitment for the part of the Nervionenses, with especially impressive contributions from our goalscorers: Sarabia, Correa and Muriel away at Cartagena, then Ben Yedder, Ganso and Correa in the Sánchez-Pizjuán (the round of 32 ending in a 7-0 aggregate win after a 4-0 victory at home). In the first-leg of tonight's fixture there were similarly impressive performances from Nolito and Navas who scored the two goals that gave Sevilla the advantage (0-2) in the tie (the side's first fixture of 2018). Similar will be expected this evening.

Cádiz is a team doesn't throw in the towel, they will put up a fight that will see strong Sevillista spirit

Cádiz are experiencing a good run in their league. The team comes off a victory last weekend (1-0) against the other league favourites Granada, placing them second in the table, with first place well within sight. They had no problem confronting their last cup opponents, scoring 6 goals, 5 of which away from home. The team in yellow will also be itching to do well, with dangerous strikers up front. Barral (3) and Dani Romera (2) have together scored 5 of the 8 goals in this season's cup. Cádiz have never won an official match here in Nervión, but tonight that history will count for nothing.

In any event, Montella's squad will need to show intensity to secure another victory - this time at home, which would be the side's fourth in the cup. The quarter-finals await and Sevilla FC will be fighting once again for one of their biggest objectives. Achieving Copa del Rey progression is the number one objective, whilst number two will be to show the unscathed, relentless, Nervionense DNA that Sevillistas all around the world treasure so dearly.
