It was tough to imagine the miracle happening tonight at the BVB Stadion, but Sevilla FC gave it their absolute all and were just one goal away from bringing it to extra time against Borussia Dortmund. The unstoppable Haaland scored two goals from a couple of chances, although Bono did save a penalty which had to be retaken and was scored on the second attempt. With everything against them, Sevilla went for the jugular and Dortmund dropped back, allowing En-Nesyri to equal the Norwegian and get a brace. Unfortunately, the second arrived moments before the final whistle, leaving the team without time to complete the comeback.

With the tie against the team, the only requirement was that they gave it their all and that is exactly what Sevilla did, closing Dortmund into their area right from the start. Ocampos took just three minutes to test Hitz with a fierce strike. Lopetegui's men pushed high up and launched crosses into the box, while Haaland was watched well and struggled to get into the game. With 15 minutes gone and Dortmund closed into their half, Ocampos fed Suso at the edge of the box but the Spaniard's shot just whistled past the post.

Sevilla closed Dortmund into their box, but Haaland scored with his first chance

Despite Sevilla's territorial dominance, the team lacked more conviction to get the goal that would change the tie. And the only mistake in the first half would have the ultimate penalty. Dortmund pressed high and won the ball on the wing, allowing Reus to burst into the box and cross into Haaland who did not miss. Despite the blow, Sevilla did not lose faith and kept pushing until the break.

Dortmund started the second half more strongly and soon a crazy series of events would take place. VAR came into play to rule out a goal from Haaland after he shoulder barged Fernando. Çakir annulled the goal but, to the surprise of everyone, pointed to the spot due to a perceived foul minutes earlier from Koundé. Bono pulled off a double stop and Sevilla broke, but the referee ordered the penalty to be retaken, and on the second attempt Haaland was successful. Lopetegui looked to change the game from the bench and brought on Papu Gómez and De Jong for Jordán and the booked Ocampos.

VAR ruled out a goal from Haaland but immediately called for a penalty

Óscar had an effort from a free kick which Hitz saved, and Sevilla would shortly after have a penalty after Emre Can pushed De Jong in the box. En-Nesyri made no mistake, rifling the ball in. There was time for a comeback, but Dortmund sat back to maintain their lead. Lopetegui brought on Munir and Rakitić to push for the goal. Despite the minutes lost with Haaland's goal and the numerous substitutions, six minutes were added on and Dortmund defended well. En-Nesyri did manage to get one, but it came at the very end without time for a third.

There were seconds left and Sevilla pushed forward and had one last scramble in the box, but the ball would not find its way into the net. Sevilla's journey in the Champions League comes to an end and the team must focus on La Liga. The streak of three losses comes to an end and the team have the chance to get back to winning ways against none other than Real Betis.
