It's no secret that Sevilla feel at home in the UEFA Europa League. In fact, although the last seasons in the Champions League has stopped them from being as influential as they once were, our stats are more than noteworthy in the UEL. For example, last night's defeat in Krasnodar brought an end to our unbeaten streak, which after the game against Standard Liege was at ten games. Our last defeat was on 14 April 2016, in the quarter-final against Athletic Bilbao. After the 2-1 victory in the New San Mamés, the Basque side managed the same result in Nervión which was settled by penalties.
Fortunately, Sevilla came away unscathed from that lottery and not only reached the semi-finals - a draw in Ukraine and a win at home against Shakhtar Donetsk - they ended up bringing home the title in Basel against Liverpool. These three matches started Sevilla's streak, which since the win in the semi-finals brought about nine consecutive wins,
In the seven games prior to Krasnodar, the team had picked up seven consecutive wins, with a spectacular goal difference of 22 for and only 2 against. Russia, usually a tough destination for Sevilla, has brought the streak to a run which we now must build again, starting on 24 October at home against Akhisar Belediyespor.
