This Tuesday, the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán welcomed a very special guest. Coke Andújar, who remains closely attached to the city of Seville despite departing for German football last summer, stopped by the offices to greet staff, and did not miss out on the chance to appear live on the SFC Radio programme Sólo Fútbol Club. The Madrid native spoke of his experiences during his first year at Schalke, and of the supporters there who maintain strong bonds with the sevillista: "They may have lost that tie but they look back on it fondly. They have very positive memories of the city, of the atmosphere between fans and they communicate that to me in the street".
Coke suffered injury immediately after arriving in Germany, and alluded also to the competitive nature of the Bundesliga: "You have to improve a lot because Bayern is a giant. But when things are going well there is potential, notably with the support you have behind you. We sell every ticket the opposition gives us, in any stadium, and with regard to next year I need a good preseason to be able to take part in every training session and every match, which is what every player wants".
"Sevilla FC have gone one step further than last year"
Regarding this season for Sevilla FC, he states that it has been bittersweet: "I'm happy for my former teammates but I remember that day in Leicester, because they had chances to advance through that tie. It was the type of awful month which every team suffers when it hurts the most, because they were fighting in LaLiga, and in the Champions League they could have made history. If we analyse it with a cool head, they've gone one step further than the previous season and Sevilla are looking to move forward every year. This time they couldn't win a trophy, but it's the price you have to pay to be one of the big teams".
To conclude, Coke spoke about the suitability of Eduardo Berizzo for the Sevilla bench: "I believe they've got it right. I don't know him very well, but I've had references from people who have followed him, learning about him in the process, and I've heard great things. He's going to prioritise togetherness and commitment, so that a player is hurt by what happens to his teammate. At Celta he has demonstrated that he has the capacity to build a team which fights for what is important".
