Sevilla FC are back at the top end of the league table, despite having two games in hand, after winning four of their last five league matches. However, this is not the only strong run that Julen Lopetegui's side have at the moment. Although the team win more points per game in Nervión, taking nine points from five games at home, compared to ten points from six matches away, the team are on a roll away from home. With yesterday's win in Getafe, the team have now won four consecutive away matches in all competitions for the second time since Julen Lopetegui's arrival at the club.
Strangely enough, the last time the club achieved this was in the Basque manager's first four away matches in charge, winning against Espanyol, Granada and Alavés in the league before a UEFA Europa League triumph against Qarabag in Azerbaijan. The team have now picked up another 12 away points on the spin, with league wins against Huesca and Getafe alongside two Champions League wins at Krasnodar and Rennes. On the first occasion, the team kept clean sheets in every single match, while this time round the team conceded a goal in both of their European matches, one of them from the penalty spot.
The wins against Krasnodar, Huesca, Rennes and Getafe have equalled the run from 2019
The team have not won five on the bounce away from home since the 2014/15 season. It was in the second half of that campaign, when Unai Emery was manager, when the Nervionenses managed to do so. Between February and April 2015, the team beat Monchengladbach in the Europa League, followed by a league win against Deportivo, two wins against Villarreal (one in the Europa League and one in LaLiga) and another three points against Levante. If the Blanquirrojos come out on top against Ciudad de Lucena in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday, they will equal that record.
However, regarding consecutive away matches unbeaten, the best run with Julen Lopetegui as manager is 10 matches, between the draw in Romania against Cluj in February and the 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou this season. The last time the Nervionenses went more than ten unbeaten on the road, they avoided defeat in thirteen consecutive matches, with that run starting with those five consecutive wins in 14/15.
