Julen Lopetegui spoke to Official Media after Saturday's 2-0 win at home to RCD Espanyol. The coach began by stating that "it was a very good game on our part. We were going to make a change that we felt would allow us to be on top towards the end of the match, but the red card came. The team were focused and showed real character. They dominated at the end, but until then I thought we were much the better side".

Lopetegui then commented on Delaney's dismissal: "Thomas knows that this action should not occur, but the referee has made his decision and I don't think the rules are very balanced. But the red card has happenedwe have to learn from our mistakes and keep working hard". After that decision, the coach felt that "the team worked very hard for each other, and they played really, really well. Sometimes you have more or less accuracy with your shotsbut it was a very complete performance".

To finish, Lopetegui thanked the fans who were present in Nervión: "The team had to dig deep largely due to those last thirty minutes and you have to give the fans the goal that they deserve, they were magnificent and we're very grateful. In tough moments, that's when we truly need them".
