Papu Gómez and Marcos Acuña lifted the Copa América trophy as Argentina won against Brazil in the final at the Maracanã. Acuña played the full ninety minutes, playing a vital role in defence as Lionel Scaloni's side kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win, with Ángel Di María scoring in the first half. As for Papu Gómez, he was an unused substitute. 28 years on, the Albiceleste finally won an international trophy, their fifteenth.
The two Sevilla players rounded off the tournament in style after some top-quality performances. As he did against Uruguay, Bolivia and Ecuador, Marcos Acuña started the match and played for the full match, while Papu Gómez, despite not starting in the final, scored a winner against Paraguay and the opener against Bolivia.
After last night's success, there are now six players who have won the Copa América during their time at Sevilla FC. Papu Gómez and Marcos Acuña followed in the footsteps of Diego Pablo Simeone, Julio Baptista, Dani Alves, and Martín Cáceres.
