Maria Pérez will receive the Gold Medal of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit after becoming world champion with the Spanish national team last month. The announcement was made at a reception held by Spanish president, Pedro Sánchez, where the squad was in attendance, including Pérez, who recently signed for the club.
The Gold Medal is awarded by the National Sports Council (CSD - Consejo Superior de Deportes) to those with outstanding achievements in the field of sport, as well as physical education and cultural sporting development. In 2019, Sevilla FC received the Gold Plate from the organisation in recognition of our various initiatives.
In an offical statement, the central midfielder said that she felt "very grateful for this plaudit. It is an honour for myself and for all 23 players who have been recognised, and serves as a reminder to keep on working."
