2-0: A MISSED OPPORTUNITY IN GETAFE

Sevilla FC missed out on a key opportunity to steer clear of the relegation zone after a 2-0 defeat away at Getafe CF.

A win would have taken us five points clear of the bottom three, but the hosts took full advantage of two second-half mistakes to secure a crucial victory. Ex-Sevillista Munir converted the first just after the interval, while Enes Ünal added the second in added time.

Getafe started the clash on the front foot and nearly opened the scoring in the first minute. Ünal won the ball off Bono after just fifteen seconds, but Gudelj nipped in front of the striker and provoked a foul to avoid an early shock.

It was then Sevilla's turn to go close, with a long and winding run from Bryan leading to a good save from David Soria. Jordán then went close from distance, before Munir's effort went narrowly wide.

Effectively, these were the only first-half chances, with both sides not allowing the other to generate any real options to score.

However, Getafe would take full advantage of Sevilla's first mistake in the second half. Mayoral won the ball high up the pitch, and centred the ball perfectly for Munir who comfortably rolled the ball home.

Ocampos went close to an equaliser just before the hour mark with an acrobatic effort which went narrowly wide, before En-Nesyri had a gilt-edged chance to equalise from a Navas cross, but he fired over.

Opportunities for the hosts then followed, with Bono denying Ünal and Jaime Mata, before Pape Gueye's fierce effort from distance was stopped well by David Soria.

Mateu Lahoz added five minutes at the end, but it would be Getafe who took full advantage with Ünal converting easily after being played clean through on goal.

All in all, a missed opportunity for Sevilla to give themselves breathing room in the table. The team are back in action on Saturday 1st April, with a trip to local rivals Cádiz.
