NO SECOND CHANCES IN THE CUP DERBY
We have the second derby of the season and, like the first, it will take place at the Benito Villamarín. After knocking out Córdoba, Andratx and Zaragoza, the draw has made Sevilla FC's first La Liga opponent in this cup edition none other than our neighbours, Real Betis. The memories of the league derby are still close in the memory, but they will be far from influencing proceedings out on the pitch tonight. The tie pits second against third in the league in what is the most enticing draw of the round.
It won't be until the team arrive at the stadium that we'll know who is available. During the week, the team has been focused working on maintaining the spectacular start to 2022 - three wins and not a single goal conceded. With the Moroccans in Cameroon and the injury doubt of Koundé, Julen Lopetegui won't have it easy tonight. He is boosted however with new signing Tecatito Corona who could play his first match in Sevilla colours.
Corona could make the squad
Betis, who will be looking to put an end to their unsuccessful run in derbies, have confirmed that Barta and Willian José are out. The Senegalese Sabaly, who has been out since his arrival in the summer, returns to the squad. After beating Alicante, Talavera and Valladolid in previous rounds, Betis, just like Sevilla, will be looking to get into the quarters and be the only team from Seville with a chance to dispute the final in their home city at La Cartuja. Despite picking up one point from the last nine, Betis do have the advantage of being at home. That said, Sevilla actually have a better record at Betis' stadium than Betis themselves.
The referee will be the Basque Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea. Under him, the team have a record of eight wins, two draws and four defeats. José Luís González González will be on VAR duties.
