Another day, another match for Sevilla FC. Less than 72 hours after winning in the derby against Real Betis, the Nervionenses face another match at home. This time it will be Elche CF who visit the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán in what should have been the second game of the season but was postponed after Sevilla began the season late as a result of winning the Europa League. With this match, all teams in the league will be on twenty-seven games played. As such, tonight marks a great chance for Sevilla to pick up points on an occasion that nobody else can.
Sevilla welcome Elche to Nervión in fourth place in the league, sitting on 51 points after increasing their advantage over Real Sociedad at the weekend with the win in El Gran Derbi and Sociedad's defeat to Granada. Sevilla will be looking to overturn the result suffered at Elche only two weeks ago and put more distance between them and the Basque side in the hunt for Champions League qualification.
Sevilla have beaten Elche on their last three visits to the Sánchez-Pizjuán
Fran Escribá's side come to Seville with 24 points, seventeenth in the league with a one-point gap over Deportivo Alavés and two over SD Eibar. The side from Alicante have three defeats in their last four games, but that solitary win was against none other than Sevilla only two weeks ago. Elche have come away defeated from Seville on their last three visits to Andalusia's capital.
Sevilla FC coach Julen Lopetegui will be without Diego Carlos and Joan Jordán after they picked up their fifth yellow cards of the season in the derby and will miss out through sanction. In the pre-match press conference, Lopetegui highlighted 'Elche CF will make life difficult for us as they very recently did. They were the better team by a fair margen.' Lopetegui also remarked that 'Elche have found a way that works for them and they're doing very well.'
The match will be played at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán this Wednesday 17 February at 19:00 CET. The match will be refereed by Arberola Rojas who will be assisted by Díaz de Mera on VAR duties.
