It wasn't easy by any means, but we know by now that it's hard enough to win a match in the Europa League, nevermind winning it outright. And that's something of which Sevilla FC have more experience than anyone else of doing. Once again Sevilla FC are one of the last 16 remaining hopefuls to get their hands on the trophy again in May in Gdansk. Today, the Día de Andalucía is celebrated, and it can be proud that it is the region that has been the King of the Europa League more than anyone else.
Sevilla have once again qualified for a European Last 16; and they have done so now for seven straight campaigns: whether it be in the UEFA Champions League or in the UEFA Europa League. After overcoming CFR Cluj, Julen Lopetegui's men now await to find out their opponents from today's draw in Nyom. Before we get to that though, we must recognise that Sevilla have got to this round six times in the last six years, with differing outcomes.
Just a year ago, Sevilla FC beat Lazio to go through to the UEL Last 16
Last season, the UEL for Sevilla hit its heights whenever they beat SS Lazio in the Round of 32 to go through to the Last 16. However, they wouldn't progress any further as they were knocked out by Slavia Prague. The two seasons previous to last, Sevilla FC competed in the Champions League (which, of course, doesn't have a Round of 32). During the 2017/18 season, they had their unforgettable night at Old Trafford as they dumped out Manchester United in the Last 16 and progressed through to the Quarter Finals.
