Sevilla FC continue to grow during this final straight. Last night's 3-0 win against CD Leganés means that the Nervionenses are now 12 games unbeaten, 10 in LaLiga and another two in the UEFA Europa League. The 10-match unbeaten spell was analysed last week, but, by reaching 12 matches unbeaten, Lopetegui's men have beaten the 11-game unbeaten run from earlier this season, before Christmas.
The run of 10 matches unbeaten in domestic competition is the one that stands out more, given that it has not happened since 2014/2015, when Unai Emery was the manager, a particularly impressive run given that the Nervionenses were playing Thursdays and Sundays for most of the season, as the side won their fourth UEFA Europa League in Warsaw.
That run began on 1st March with a goalless draw at home to Atlético de Madrid in Nervión, and finished two months later with a 1-0 loss at home to Real Madrid, also in Nervión. As well as winning their Europa League knockout ties, Sevilla also had some notable performances in the league, as they won 2-0 away at Villarreal, beat Athletic Club 2-0 at home, and drew 2-2 against FC Barcelona midway through April.
There are five league matches left this season, three of them in Nervión
Now, Lopetegui's men have just five league matches left this season as they look to improve these positive figures and further show their competitiveness as they did at the Wanda before the break, and the matches against Betis, Barcelona and Villarreal since the league resumed. As well as the crucial three points yesterday, with a 1-1 draw at home to Valladolid that the side were not happy with, the side keep marching on. This season's aim is certainly achievable but the team will have to be firm, as there are still 15 points left to play for in a very tight league.
Eibar, Mallorca and Valencia still have to visit Nervión, while the only two remaining away trips are up north, against Athletic Club and Real Sociedad. Therefore, picking up results at the Sánchez-Pizjuán is the main route to continue this unbeaten run and return to Europe's elite competition after a two year absence.
