Argentina continue to show the form they used to win the Copa America. After being crowned as Copa America champions in Brazil in the summer, Lionel Scaloni's team got straight back to it with the World Cup Qualifiers by beating Venezuela away from home 1-3. The Venezuelans made it even harder for themselves when Adrián Martínez was shown a straight red, which enabled Argentina to take advantage and score the first goal right at the end of the first half.

The second half saw two more goals for Argentina, with goals from ex-Sevillista Joaquín Correa and Atlético Madrid winger, Ángel Correa sealing the win for the Champions. The only goal for Venezuela came through Soteldo who scored a penalty in stoppage time. In terms of the Sevillistas in the game, Marcos Acuña started as left-back and played the full 90 minutes, and Papu Gómez came on for Lautaro with 15 minutes to go. Gonzalo Montiel was an unused substitute.

Argentina remain in second place in the group with 15 points, six points behind Brazil. The group leaders will be the next opponents for Argentina when they play in Recife on Sunday, in what will be a rematch of the Copa America final.
