Sevilla FC had made another historic start to the season. After a hard-fought victory this Sunday in Girona, Eduardo Berizzo's side not only managed to cement themselves in the Champions League places, but also recorded the best start in their history for the first four matches in La Liga. In fact you have to go back to the 2014/2015 campaign - where the team recorded the best points tally in their La Liga history - to find stats that equal this season's start.

Only Unai Emery's squad could match Berizzo's first four games, though they did so practically identically. In the opening match of the season, his side drew 1-1 against Valencia CF, just like this season against RCD Espanyol.

From there on, three consecutive victories. Where this season they've been recorded against Getafe CF (0-1), SD Eibar (3-0) and Girona FC (0-1), in 2014/2015 they achieved victories against RCD Espanyol (1-2), Getafe CF (2-0) and Córdoba CF (1-3). The fifth match, which this season will be played against UD Las Palmas, was also a win against Real Sociedad (1-0). It was then in the sixth, in the Vicente Calderón, where the streak was broken with a loss. Coincidentally, Berizzo's men also play Atlético Madrid in their sixth game of the season, though this time in the Wanda Metropolitano.

Three victories have been recorded without conceding in La Liga.

The good defensive record seen at the start of the competition is also reason to revisit the historic records. It should be remembered that Sevilla FC have conceded the fewest goals in the league so far this season, alongside FC Barcelona and Athletic Club Bilbao who have also only conceded one goal.

Three games without conceding mean that the three consecutive wins are not exactly like those of the 14/15 side. In that season, the Sevilla squad achieved the feat in two batches: first from game 17 to 19 where they won 1-0 against RC Celta, 0-2 against UD Almería and 2-0 against Málaga and then again from match 27 to 29: winning 3-0 at home against Elche CF, 0-2 against Villarreal and 2-0 against Athletic Club Bilbao.

On two occasions they achieved the feat with two 1-0 wins at home, but this time they've only managed this result once in Nervión. The last time this happened was a nearly decade ago - between matches 3 and 5 of the 09/10 season with wins against CA Osasuna (0-2), RCD Mallorca (2-0) and against Athletic Club Bilbao once more (0-4).
