MONCHI: 'LISTENING TO THESE TWO PLAYERS YOU SEE A CLUB THAT TREATS THEIR OWN WELL'

The Sporting Director spoke wonders of how the Czech and the Argentine defended the Sevilla FC badge in their goodbye to the Club

Sporting Director Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo 'Monchi' spoke in the farewell press-conference to Tomáš Vaclík and Mudo Vázquez. To begin, he spoke to the Czech, stating that although he didn't sign him, he would have done so given his utmost professionalism at every moment: 'After thirty something years at the Club I'm doing something new. It's the first time I'm saying goodbye to a player that I didn't sign, even though if I had have been at the Club I would have signed him. We played in the same position and I know how difficult it can be, but he held himself so magnificently both when he played and when he did not. If we took the most important thing to be the behaviour of this group over the last seasons, we would maybe have to renew everyone's contract for at least ten years, and Tomáš could well be on that list. The decision to not renew Tomáš' contract is a decision that Monchi the person would never take, but as Sporting Director he had to take. Tomáš has a lot more ahead of him.'

Talking about Mudo, Monchi admitted he loved the style of football the Argentine adhered to: 'I'm a staunch 'Mudist', I'm convinced by his philosophy. A bit of my heart goes with Mudo because he represents the values every professional must have. A part of the recent history of Sevilla is leaving: he played almost 200 games and he is a wonderful example of what football and Sevilla represent. Seville and Andalusia are for artists and you are a brilliant artist, but an even better person.'

'Escudero will shortly have his more than well-deserved farewell'

Finishing the press conference, Monchi spoke generally about the two: 'No matter how goodbyes you have to say, the hardest one is always the last one, and even more so today with it being a double send-off. Allow me to boast of the Club, as listening to these two professionals speak today you see a club that treats its own well, helping them feel part of the Sevilla family.' Monchi also had a message for Sergio Escudero, who announced his departure on social media yesterday and who will have a farewell ceremony similar to Tomáš and Vázquez: 'Escudero is leaving as well. A captain is saying farewell and I think this is the moment to announce it and confirm that in the coming days he will have his more than well-deserved farewell at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.'
