Sevilla FC and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement in principle which will see Jules Koundé join the Catalan side, subject to the centre-back passing his medical and finalising his contract.
Koundé joined Sevilla three summers ago from Girondins de Bordeaux. Despite being just 20 years old at the time and not becoming a guaranteed starter straight away, his individual quality shone through and he became a permanent fixture in the Sevilla backline.
The French defender made 133 appearances for the club, with 95 in LaLiga Santander, 13 in the UEFA Europa League, 12 in the UEFA Champions League, 12 in the Copa del Rey and one in the UEFA Super Cup. He was also part of the Europa League-winning side in the 2019/20 season.
During his three seasons, he scored nine goals from defence. In his first season, he scored once in the league and once in the cup, before adding four in the 2020/21 season (two in the league, one in the UCL and one in the cup). Last season, he scored twice in the league and once in the cup.
As a Sevillista, he made his debut for France U21 as well as the national team. His full international debut came in June 2021, and he has nine caps in total. He was part of the UEFA Nations League-winning squad last October.
