Left-back Lionel Carole cannot play for Sevilla FC in the second-half of the La Liga season owing to an excess of players in the squad.
With the additions of Roque Mesa, Miguel Layún, Sandro Ramírez and departures of Borja Lasso, Walter Montoya and Michael Krohn-Dehli, the Sevilla squad was left with 26 players - one over the maximum allowance of 25 for league competition. In a purely tactical decision, Carole has been the player left out, with two left-backs - Escudero and Arana - and one other player - Layún - also able to play in the position.
Sevilla FC would like to emphasise the professionalism, enthusiasm and positive predisposition of Carole since his arrival at the Club. The inability of the Club to arrange the departure of other players has been the sole reason for his exclusion from the 25-man squad.
